Han Fangen Professor, Director of Research Institute for Composites, Chongqing Institute of Technology
Education: Ph.D. University of Texas at Arlington, USA, 1997; M.S. University of Texas at Arlington, USA, 1991; B.S. Feng Chia University, Taiwan, 1989.
Areas of Expertise: Design and manufacturing of composites, mechanics of composites, experimental composites, finite element analysis, and computer aided design.
Introduction and Research Direction of Research Institute for Composites: The Research Institute for Composites encourages interdisciplinary researches in composite materials and structures among faculty, students, and staff from various including international departments and colleges. The research activities cover characterization, evaluation and processing of materials, analytical and experimental methodologies development, and design and applications of composite structures.
The research direction points to research and development of unidirectional fibers and fabric reinforced composites, foamed composites, and conductive composites. Applications focus on automobile and infrastructure industries. Interested reinforcement materials encompass carbon, glass, and natural fibers; matrices include thermoset, thermoplastic, conductive polymer, ceramic, and naturally degradable materials.
Current Research Projects: Carbon fiber reinforced polymer rebars, and fiber reinforced foam structures.
Background: Dr. Han has extensive industrial experiences in design, analysis, manufacturing, and testing of composite structures. He has worked on sponsored research projects with Bell Helicopter-Textron, American Eurocopter, Gulfstream Aerospace, and US Navy. Dr Han joined CQIT as a full time faculty member in 2003 to conduct research in the Research Institute for Composites, Chongqing Institute of Technology.
