Brief Introduction to Prof. & Dr. Heng-lu Yao
Dr. Yao, Heng-lu, born in Beijing, China. Professor in Music Composition and Music Analysis at Composition department, The Central Conservatory of Music, 100031, Beijing, China. Degrees of Master of Music(MMus,1990); Doctor of Philosophy(PhD, 1994) in Music Composition both acquired from The University of Leeds, England. Member of the Musicians' Association of China; Member of the National Association of Composers in USA (NACUSA);
He began to study piano and music theory at age 9 in the Primary School of Music attached to the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. He used to be sent to countryside in Shanxi province during Cultural Revolution period to do rural works for 5 years starting at 17 years old; He studied Music Composition at the Music Department, Shanxi University in Taiyuan, China, between 1973-1976. He used to take a job after graduation, as a culture officer， worked at the north culture bureau in Shanxi Province for 3 years. As a composer and music editor, he took a job at the Music Department of Beijing Broadcasting Station between 1980 and 1989. In 1989, he went to England to pursue higher degrees with a rich work experience.
Prof. Yao has been teaching both in Music Composition and Music Analysis since 1995 at the Composition Department, The Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China. He composed many different music pieces and published the books named,

　　　　He was awarded a research fellowship from State Education Ministry entitled "Trans-Century Training Program Foundation for the Talents of Humanities and Social Science by the National Education Ministry" in 1999. He published more than 40 academic papers since 1993, one of them called THE COMBINATORIAL COMPOSING PRINCIPLE OF TRICHORD SET-ANALYSIS TO BABBITTS SEMI-SIMPLE VARIATION, had been awarded a Certificate of Achievement in selection in world wide web of internet by Colby Information Center of Science & Culture, USA, in 2000. 　　 Since 1997, Prof. Yao has visited 6 music conservatories within China, Shen Yang, Si Chuan, Wu Han, Guang Zhou, Xi An, Shan Xi, to give one-week lectures on the topics of Contemporary Music Composition; Analyses in Western Contemporary Music; Technical Analysis to Lutoslawski's 12 Aleatory Compositions; General Information of Music Education at Present in England; As an interpreter between Chinese and English, he had undertaken such works for various lectures for oversea visitors since 1995; Between February and July of 2002, he got a fellowship from British Academy to become a visiting scholar at the university of Southampton, and also he visited several Musikhochschules in Koln, Saarbrucken and Trossingen, where he made some academic discussions with professors and students.

姚恒璐,博士, 中央音乐学院作曲系教授、博士生导师，北京市人。中国音乐家 协会理论委员会委员、欧美同学会会员、中国音乐著作权协会会员、美国作曲家组织NACUSA会员。自70年代末以来创作有: 钢琴曲, 艺术歌曲, 室内乐重奏作品及管弦乐作品。在英国利兹大学（The University of Leeds）攻读学位时曾连续四年获英国政府奖学金, 1990年获作曲专业的音乐硕士学位(MMus)、1994年获得利兹大学第一位作曲专业的哲学博士学位(PhD)。1995年回国至今，任教于中央音乐学院作曲系，从事作曲、音乐分析的教学工作。
