Performed additional duties as part of the National Blindness Control Programme. Programme included screening of children in schools for refractive errors and eye diseases, screening of general population in the state, at various ;levels to determine cases of reversible blindness (mostly cataract), maintaining blind registers at different levels.
Dr Bhatia was in charge of organising/coordinating these efforts and also organising camps for cataract and glaucoma surgeries to control blindness. Her responsibilities also included selection of appropriate specialist surgeons for surgery camps, also, arranging medicines, instruments and disposables for these camps.

Posted at the city’s biggest government referral hospital in the Ophthalmology Department. Carried out surgeries (averaging 700 a year) and examining patients in the Out Patients Department, (averaging 300 a month) for various eye-related issues including
