1970年毕业于北京大学数学力学系。
在吉林大学数学系获理学硕士(1981)和博士(1998)学位。导师:伍卓群教授。
1981年起在大连理工大学应用数学系任教,先后任讲师(1983), 副教授(1987),教授(1991),系主任(1998--2002),教学名师(2003)。
1984--85 访问美国密西根大学 (University of Michigan) 数学系 J. Smoller, 1995--95 访问美国加州理工学院 (California Institute of Technology) 应用数学系 T.Y. Hou.

研究领域(研究课题):
非线性科学是当代科学最重要的研究领域之一,其核心是关于非线性偏微分方程的研究。经典线性模型只是真实问题的理想性简化,只能局部地刻画物质运动及物质运动的量变过程;凡涉及质变现象,或在大的(时间或空间)范围考虑问题时,必定与非线性模型打交道。世界因为非线性而精彩。非线性导致物质世界的多样性,造就丰富多彩的大千世界。非线性科学极大地刺激了现代数学的发展,成为当代数学发展的重要推动力。人们对非线性的研究是从低级到高级、从简单到复杂逐步发展的。例如,从半线性到拟线性、完全非线性;从单个方程到方程组;从非退化到退化;从弱耦合到强耦合,等等。本人主要研究领域集中于非线性发展方程,特别是具有广泛实际背景的非线性抛物方程(组),以及非线性双曲守恒律组等。
指导硕、博士生研究方向:
非线性偏微分方程的理论与应用。 重点是对具有广泛实际背景的非线性抛物方程(组)等非线性发展方程(组)的研究,例如:复杂抛物系统中多重非线性之间的相互作用、解的奇性的产生与传播等。
出版著作和论文:
科研成果主要分布于以下几个方向:
(1)关于mutualist多种群反应扩散模型的研究(1986--1994):为最早进行这类问题研究的学者之一,曾有五大洲二十多个国家的同行来函索取论文抽印本,具有广泛国际影响,其中1987年给出的一个模型和结果(J. Math. Anal. Appl. 124 (1987), 254--280)20年来被国内外同行大量引用至今。
(2)关于非线性超抛物方程研究(1984,与伍卓群合作):为关于非线性超抛物方程为数不多的工作之一,直到2005年仍受到法国数学家 Kirane等人关注。
(3)关于非线性双曲守恒律组广义解的稳定性和唯一性的研究(1985--1986):改进和推广了著名数学家DiPerna的重要工作,得到DiPerna本人的肯定与好评。
(4)关于反应扩散方程组弱不变区域理论的研究(1994--2000):改造经典不变区域理论,引进弱不变区域新概念并建立有界弱不变区域的判定定理。新框架可容纳相当广泛的反应扩散方程组,将解的整体存在性证明大大简化。
(5)关于反应扩散方程组中临界增长性的研究(1996--2001):引起该领域同行关注,被美国科学院院士 Serrin评价为“椭圆与抛物方程领域的重要贡献” (“an important contribution to the subject of semilinear elliptic and parabolic equations”),该文的单篇SCI引用已超过30次(含自引)。
(6)关于多重非线性抛物方程组的临界指标与奇性传播的研究(2002--至今):为近五年来的主要研究领域。以所引入的特征代数方程组这一新框架,得到关于多重非线性机制之间相互作用与奇性生成规律的清晰刻画,在多重非线性抛物方程组临界指标与奇性解渐近分析方面所取得了一系列特色鲜明的研究成果,发表于十多种重要国外学术期刊。
1987年起担任美国“数学评论”(Mathematical Reviews) 评论员,已发表数学评论180余则。
